On Saturday 18th November a team of our Year 7 Academy netball players travelled to a cold, wet and windy Bromley High to play in a friendly match against a local club called Breakaways.

The game started off a bit slow and shaky, with the ball going back and forth and back and forth through the centre third. We were really struggling to shoot with the weather conditions and there was lots of slipping about! Unfortunately, during the first quarter, no goals were scored, which meant we had all the work to do in the second quarter. The girls seemed determined to go back on and make sure they scored some goals, they were all discussing about working the ball to circle edge and being ready if the ball needed to be passed out for shooters to get a better position which was great to hear! The second quarter went so much better, fantastic movement from centre court and great defending from defensive team. We also managed to get 2 goals in and Breakaways managed to get their first goal too.

At halftime the girls were in great spirits despite the cold and rain and were so enthusiastic to get back on the court, so off we went into the third quarter. We had a wobbly start with Breakaways getting two goals on the trot, the girls then started looking after the ball and keeping the passes short and sharp which worked fantastically. The third quarter ended 5-3 to us! Then into the final quarter, we struggled to get the ball into the shooters but our defence was working together brilliantly and didn’t let a single goal in which meant we could keep working at it! At the end of the match, both players and coaches were delighted to take a 6-3 win! Well done to everyone who took part and player of the match is awarded to Soraya Wood!

It was a fantastic match where our girls were able to demonstrate everything they’ve been working on this term. It was a great experience for all of our players and we were so impressed with the standard of netball that the girls played.
