With the new season starting a few weeks ago, it’s been a fantastic run so far for the Beacons netball squads. They are training hard and having fun at the same time which is what we at Beacons strongly believe in!
The five senior squads have had a busy time since the beginning of the season competing in the North West Kent league. The 1st team had a great opening game on September 8th against New Edition and came out strong with a 47-39 win!
Matches on 29th September saw all the teams working hard and showing a great amount of skill on the court. Beacons 2 gained a win this week after a previous draw, as did Beacons 3 who held their own and secured a win against Abbey Angels, whilst Beacons 4 and Beacons 5 had tough games against Chislehurst and Sabina which meant not a win for either team this time but the experience gained and persistence shown on court was inspiring for all watching and all the girls should be very pleased with how they performed.
Beacons U12 and U14 squads are also completing in the Rising Star junior netball league this year.
Our U12 squad have had a great opening to their first league experience, with two consecutive wins under their belt, they are looking like a force to be reckoned with. The first match against Eclipse saw them win 17-2 and the following week an even more impressive result of 47-0 against Swanley. The girls are truly an inspiration!
The U14s are also showing that hard work plays off with lightening performances resulting in wins against Breakaways (29-2) and Club Langley (42-1) so far.
This was followed by a stunning performance by our U16 Junior County League squad in their Qualifying tournament to secure their league place, winning all three matches played (48-11, 52-13, 44-13).
A staggering 638 goals have been scored so far this season across all our teams and just 381 conceded!!
We are super proud of all the effort and determination that every member puts into both training and competitive match play and we can’t wait to see how the season progresses for all of them.
The 2nd team began their season with a fantastic performance against Instead 3, with consistency and passing accuracy on target we were sure from the offset to put in a good performance. The girls did not disappoint and the shooting was very precise and the girls seemed to gel instantly as a team, the game ended 48-30 to Beacons! Great start! The second team started a day off netball off with a fantastic performance, dominating the game from the beginning and securing a convincing win of 69-28 against All Saints. The following game saw us took to the court against Eclipse 4, who we knew wouldn’t be easy as they were top of the league with us having not lost a game! The girls took the court with grit and determination and they played their socks off throughout, which made the end result even harder to take as they played so well. The end result was unfortunate as the game ended with Eclipse winning 36-28. Raiders 2 was the next game for Beacons 2, with it being a wet and windy day the conditions weren’t ideal however we started the game strong and managed to keep a lead throughout. The girls played with composure and stuck to their own game plan, which meant they came away with a great win of 30-17. Beacons 2 are currently 2nd in their division.
The 3rd team began their season with a very strong performance against Trinity 2, taking an early lead they managed to win by 31 goals with the final score standing at 58-17 to Beacons. The 3rd team took to the court against an experienced Chislehurst team. Despite a solid performance at halftime, the team were down 6 goals. The girls were determined to pull it back and after an awesome 3rd quarter we were then 6 goals ahead! Despite an injury, in the last quarter, we held onto the lead taking a 48-42 win. The following week saw them take on OBA 4, again this was another very strong and controlled performance from the girls who played consistently and without many errors to secure the win of 37-15, absolutely fantastic shooting! Beacons 3 are currently Top of their division.
Beacons 2nd vs Bromley Ladies
Bromley 38 – Beacons 27
On the 20th of September Beacons 2nd team took to the court against Bromley ladies. We started off playing strong in the first quarter with lots of interceptions as well as putting pressure on Bromley’s attack. Our attacking side was strong also, with Honour scoring most of the goals.
However in the second quarter we let our guard drop in defence slightly and this allowed the opposing team to concede 15 goals with our team only conceding 5 goals. By the third quarter, we made some changes in positions with Bella Perry and me coming off from GS and WD respectively and Victoria Newman going on as WD, Martha at C and Kat at GA.
It took a little while for our team to settle down again after the substitutions as we struggled with spacing on court as well as driving on to the ball, though we did manage to claw it back to 27-38 to Bromley with an 11 point goal difference. In the final quarter I came back on at WD.
We gave it our all, getting plenty of interceptions and rebounds. Throughout the match the defence between Mali and Demaris was very strong. They were on fire! Overall we all thoroughly enjoyed the match and worked hard. Looking back, we have plenty of things we need to work on in training to help us improve our game for the next time we play Bromley!
