Beacons Vs Breakaways Friendly!

Beacons Vs Breakaways Friendly!

On Saturday 18th November a team of our Year 7 Academy netball players travelled to a cold, wet and windy Bromley High to play in a friendly match against a local club called Breakaways.

The game started off a bit slow and shaky, with the ball going back and forth and back and forth through the centre third. We were really struggling to shoot with the weather conditions and there was lots of slipping about! Unfortunately, during the first quarter, no goals were scored, which meant we had all the work to do in the second quarter. The girls seemed determined to go back on and make sure they scored some goals, they were all discussing about working the ball to circle edge and being ready if the ball needed to be passed out for shooters to get a better position which was great to hear! The second quarter went so much better, fantastic movement from centre court and great defending from defensive team. We also managed to get 2 goals in and Breakaways managed to get their first goal too.

At halftime the girls were in great spirits despite the cold and rain and were so enthusiastic to get back on the court, so off we went into the third quarter. We had a wobbly start with Breakaways getting two goals on the trot, the girls then started looking after the ball and keeping the passes short and sharp which worked fantastically. The third quarter ended 5-3 to us! Then into the final quarter, we struggled to get the ball into the shooters but our defence was working together brilliantly and didn’t let a single goal in which meant we could keep working at it! At the end of the match, both players and coaches were delighted to take a 6-3 win! Well done to everyone who took part and player of the match is awarded to Soraya Wood!

It was a fantastic match where our girls were able to demonstrate everything they’ve been working on this term. It was a great experience for all of our players and we were so impressed with the standard of netball that the girls played.

Beacons Play Eclipse and Breakaways

Beacons Play Eclipse and Breakaways

On Saturday 22nd April, after a season of superb netball the U12’s and U14’s were through to the semi-finals of their respective leagues. Both teams took to the court nervous and excited but more then anything ready for action!

The U12’s played Eclipse where they dominated their game from early on and thanks to the amazing shooting of Madeline and Olivia our score surged ahead! The whole team performed exceptionally well making numerous valuable interceptions and showing fast and efficient passing down court. Vivienne and Daisy in defence restricted the opposition to scoring only 8 goals over the full 40 minutes of netball, they did a great job of winning rebounds, making interceptions and clearing the backlines. The opposition voted for Madeline as the player of the match, a well deserved title!

Overall we won the game 24-8 and are delighted to be going through to the finals taking place on 6th May where we will face Telstars!

Meanwhile the U14’s were playing Breakaways in a tense semi-finals. The girls seems to lack their usual confidence but regardless of that converted the goals and stopped the opposition at every opportunity. The teams court play was impressive and their intelligent netball secured them another win taking a 22-10 victory. This also means they will be competing in the finals on 6th May against Raiders!

The player of the match voted by the opposition was Katie F-W, great job Katie!
